Pushing Boundaries in AI and Multicloud Storage

Dell PowerScale is leading the charge in AI and multicloud storage solutions, empowering businesses to excel in today’s AI-driven era. At Dell Technologies World 2024 in Las Vegas, the excitement was palpable as we showcased Dell’s AI-optimized infrastructure through the Dell AI Factory, culminating in the unveiling of the PowerScale F910.

A Milestone in AI-Ready Infrastructure

The PowerScale F910 announcement marked the completion of our all-flash file storage lineup refresh. This product reinforces our commitment to delivering AI-ready infrastructure that transforms business operations. The F910 stands out with its massive AI performance and ultimate density, setting a new benchmark for storage efficiency.

Supercharging AI Workloads

The modern challenge for organizations is to keep AI systems fully utilized and running at peak performance without bottlenecks. PowerScale F910 tackles this issue directly. In an age where GPUs devour storage and data at unprecedented rates, the F910 accelerates the AI pipeline’s model training phase with high-speed data ingestion at scale, ensuring your AI systems are always fully fed.

Key Highlights of the PowerScale F910

  1. AI-Ready Performance: Powered by the latest Intel Xeon CPUs, DRAM, and Gen 5 PCIe technology, the F910 boosts streaming performance by up to 127%, leading to faster AI insights. It supports up to 300 PBs of storage per cluster, keeping GPUs fully utilized. The software-defined OneFS simplifies multicloud integration, supporting APEX File Storage for AWS and Microsoft Azure.

  1. Enhanced Storage Efficiency: The F910’s 2U node design offers 20% more density per RU than its predecessor, the PowerScale F710. It also advances sustainability goals, delivering up to twice the performance per watt with recent hardware and software upgrades. Plus, it features the world’s best scale-out NAS data reduction guarantee, allowing you to achieve more with less.

  1. Advanced Security Features: The F910 includes encryption at rest and in transit, real-time cyber threat prevention, GPUDirect support with NVIDIA, low latency storage access with NFSoRDMA, multi-tenant capabilities, 6x9s availability, and resiliency. It supports simultaneous multiprotocol operations with S3 compatibility, enhancing flexibility for various AI workflows.

The Buzz on the Expo Floor

The response to the PowerScale F910 on the expo floor was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees were eager to see the new product in action, reinforcing why Dell is the #1 NAS storage vendor. PowerScale continues to address real challenges and unlock new possibilities for AI-driven organizations.

The Future of AI-Optimized Storage

The launch of the PowerScale F910 is just the beginning. Upcoming enhancements include 61 TB QLC drives to double the maximum capacity and further streamline data center footprint. As the world’s first Ethernet-based NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD certified storage vendor, we are also introducing 200GbE connectivity, soon to be qualified with the latest NVIDIA backend networking switches (NVIDIA Spectrum-4), to improve inter-cluster scalability.

Additionally, to meet the storage needs of the most advanced AI factories (tens of thousands of GPUs+), we announced PowerScale: Project Lightning. This new parallel file system, designed specifically for AI workloads, will ensure the storage needs of even the largest AI clusters are met.

Moving Forward with Pride and Anticipation

Reflecting on Dell Technologies World 2024 and the amazing interactions with customers and partners, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved with PowerScale. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in AI and delivering solutions that empower our customers to thrive in an increasingly data-driven world.
